Flights

You will be flying into the San Jose - Costa Rica Airport (SJO) Not all airlines fly into this airport internationally so it is important to check.

Tips to save:

1. Fly out of an international airport using an airline that is direct

This seems simple but it can save you a ton. You can skip the connecting flight and fly directly from an international airport.

2. Order flights ahead of time-

International flights are much cheaper when ordered ahead of time! Look to order you flight 6-7 months in advance. Personally, we will be ordering our flight around this June through Southwest Airlines.

3. Fly with airlines that include bags-

Some airlines make you pay for bags as well as your ticket. So although some tickets seem cheaper it is important to add in the cost of your bags to the overall cost. Again, we will be flying Southwest Airlines and they allow two free bags with the purchase of you ticket.

4. Look into AfterPay options

Some airlines have after pay options that allow you to break up the total cost of tickets. Of course this is dependent on different factors like credit score and purchase details.

Vehicles

Once you land in San Jose International Airport, it is about a 75 minute drive to Bella Vista Retreat. If you do plan to rent a vehicle then it is important to keep the rough terrains in mind. Small vehicles may not be the best option depending on the areas you plan to visit.

Currency

When it comes to money in Costa Rica it is important to have both local currency (colones) and U.S. currency (dollars). You can exchange currency once you arrive in Costa Rica at some local banks. Exchanging currency at the airport may be more costly due to the fees.
